Can You Hear Me? MMM 11-1-10

 CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

Monday Morning Message, November 1, 2010

It’s hard to believe we are entering the last two months of the year and yet this has been a year filled with great surprises and unusual financial markets.  Tomorrows elections will also bring unexpected results as people try to read the polling information and determine actions based on the anticipation of these events.  No matter how you feel at the end of the week compared with the start of the week, remember that God is still in charge and he only allows choices because he is a loving and patient God.  How long will that last?  We also know he is a God of justice and a God of order.  Can you hear his voice?

Speaking of hearing… have you noticed that when you greet people on the street, most of them ignore you today?  I notice this as I ride my bicycle each morning in my friendly neighborhood.  I thought for awhile that everyone had just become so engrossed in their own world that they could not bother to say “good morning” back to me.  Then I noticed that the same thing is true when I walk in the shopping malls.  The only exception to this is when I have our little dog ME with me.  Then, of course almost everyone stops to say “HI”.  It wasn’t long after this observation that I also connected the major reason why people are too other-focused has to do with these wires that are connected to their ears.

My wife started pointing out this same phenomenon about me just a few years ago when my company thought it was a good idea to incentivize me to purchase a tiny contraption called Blackberry.  She would often tell people that she was not worried about many sins and temptations that would befall me, BUT that ______ Blackberry wouldn’t be missed on her part if I would ditch it.  I fear that our whole world is caught up in our own importance with music, emails, texting and just generally being selfish.

OOOPS, I was going to finish this MMM but I have to answer your emails on my Blackberry!  Can you hear me?

II Timothy 4:3-4 (RSV) “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.”
